Nano Accessories
From the time I bought my very first Ipod, way back when they were big and white and boxy, the first thing I would do is go out and buy a case, a new pair of headphones, and a car charger.
Now that Apple has released the sleek, colorful, and much smaller Ipod Nano, accessories are even more abundant. Nano accessories are their own industry – companies worldwide make only products aimed at the millions of Ipod Nano owners, products that fill needs we didn’t even know we had. The first Nano accessory you will undoubtedly need is a charger. Although all Ipod’s come with their own electrical and computer-based charging technology, they don’t come with a charger that will work in a car. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is. With a new Ipod Nano, you will be using it all the time, and few things will frustrate you more than going on a long drive and running out of tunes.
While in the car, an Itrip for Nano is also a virtual necessity. An Itrip allows your Nano Ipod to send its signal through your car stereo and frees you from using your headphones, which in some states is actually illegal. Nano Itrips come in several forms – you can send the signal through an FM transmitter, through a cassette adapter, and some cars now have the ability to plug a stereo plug directly into the dashboard, allowing a much better and more reliable connection.
While at home, however, maybe you don’t want to be walking around with a pair of headphones on – you want to hear your music from speakers! Many manufacturers now offer speaker systems, especially built for Ipod Nano’s and other mp3 players. By taking your Ipod Nano with you, wherever you go, from school to work, in the car, and at home, your music will always be with you. There are even alarm clocks built especially for an Ipod Nano, where you can wake to your favorite music. Other accessories fall into the optional or “vanity” category of Nano accessories. By personalizing your Ipod Nano, you are making a statement about who you are, the music you love, and your personal style. And, there are many ways to do this.
Nano skins are tight-fitting, often adhesive, covers that fit around your Nano. In addition to protecting the sometimes delicate surfaces of the Ipod Nano from scratches, they add a little style. Some skins provide skid resistance (for placing the Ipod on your dashboard), others provide a better grip for people who like to run with their Ipod. Other Nano skins are purely decorative or representative of your favorite team, band, or even Hannah Montana!
Nano covers and Nano cases offer far more protection than Nano skins, but sometimes make the Nano a little less user-friendly. Nano covers and cases may be plastic, clear, sequined, leather, or even fur. Some Ipod Nano covers even offer water protection so that swimmers may use their Nano underwater!
One of the most popular Nano cases is the Nano armband used by many runners. By attaching the Nano to your upper arm, you allow easy access to your music while keeping your hands free. These cases are water resistant (so sweat all you want!), and attach using a Velcro strap. They are comfortable, don’t slip, and enable you to run with your tunes for hours.
Buying your Ipod Nano is just the first step. Once you have it, load it up with your music and start shopping for all the accessories!
